The US Embassy in Amman urged Americans in the Middle East to remain vigilant amid escalating security risks, warning of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures and threats to US-linked interests. Its alert refers to Houthi attacks on Saudi civilian airports and infrastructure that caused casualties. Separately, reporting on the attacks confirmed deaths and widespread airline disruption. The embassy alert itself does not establish a new oil-supply disruption or a measured market reaction.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian attacks killed 78 people and wounded 215 across Ukraine over two days. Reuters reported that 35 people were killed in Kramatorsk on 8 October, including two killed in a later drone attack. Zelensky criticised US efforts to explore economic ties with Russia while mediating the war, and called for expanded Ukrainian access to Starlink and greater sanctions pressure on Moscow.
Ethiopia told the UN Security Council it must defend itself against what it described as an Eritrean invasion, Reuters reported on 9 October. Its foreign minister alleged troops had moved up to 60 km into northern Ethiopia. Eritrea previously disputed incursion reports and had not immediately responded to Friday’s request for comment.
Nvidia-backed Australian data-centre operator Firmus shelved its planned $5 billion IPO on Friday and said it would seek private capital. Reuters reported that a source expected a later Nasdaq listing, but the company declined to confirm that plan.
The Indian rupee rose 0.2% to 96.61 per dollar in a Friday trading snapshot reported by Reuters. Lower oil prices provided support. Traders said the RBI likely intervened near 96.80; that assessment is not an official intervention confirmation.
Japan said on 9 October it would renew its spending review to help fund policy pledges. Reuters reported that the review covers 201 special-purpose government funds with balances estimated at around ¥7 trillion at the end of the next fiscal year. The review seeks unused funds and stricter subsidy assessments; it does not establish realised savings.
All ten economists in a Reuters poll expect Singapore’s central bank to tighten monetary policy on 14 October. Singapore manages policy through its exchange-rate band. The poll is a forecast, not an announced policy decision.
Switzerland’s September consumer sentiment index stood at −36 points, SECO said in data released on 9 October. The index was just under one point above September 2025. Economic outlook improved year-on-year, while assessments of past and future finances and major purchases weakened.
Italian industrial production fell 1.3% month-on-month in August, versus a flat reading expected in a Reuters poll. July’s increase was revised to 0.6% from 0.7%. Reuters reported the ISTAT release on 9 October. These figures describe August activity.
China is set to resume refined-fuel exports following a brief holiday-period halt, Reuters reported on 9 October, citing four traders. Two other industry participants put approved October shipments at about 3.7 million tonnes. Government ministries had not immediately commented. This is a material update to Piplix’s existing export-suspension story; approval should not be confused with completed shipments or guaranteed delivery to buyers.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said in parliament on 9 October that the government would monitor exchange-rate and price developments carefully and respond appropriately, Reuters reported. She also said fiscal policy would consider factors including interest rates and yen movements. The remarks keep currency risks in focus but do not confirm an intervention, specify an exchange-rate threshold or announce a Bank of Japan policy decision.
Tata Consultancy Services shares rose 5.2% to ₹2,183.90 in trading on 9 October, Reuters reported. Its annualised AI revenue reached $3.1 billion in the July–September quarter, growing nearly 20% from the preceding quarter. The share move is an intraday observation. Annualised revenue represents a run rate and should not be presented as revenue earned entirely during that quarter.
