Reuters reported the US dollar closed at 5.4460 Brazilian reais on 30 October 2026, rising 1.09% on the day to its highest closing level of the year. The dollar gained 9.15% against the real during the week following Brazil’s presidential run-off, amid investor concern about the fiscal-policy outlook. The move is an observed market reaction, not proof of any specific future government measure.

Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on 30 October 2026 that an armed group closed a valve on the 18-inch Hamada–Zawiya crude pipeline in the Rayayna area, forcing operators to stop pumping after pressure rose sharply. The line supplies crude from the Hamada and Tahara fields to the Zawiya refinery. NOC warned that a sustained shutdown could disrupt about 15,000 barrels per day of crude destined for the refinery. This is a new incident, separate from a similar closure on 22 October. The 15,000-bpd figure is the operator's estimate of potential supply loss, not a verified nationwide production loss.
Intel shares fell about 29% on 30 October 2026 after the chipmaker forecast December-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, below market expectations of roughly $17.1 billion. The company warned that weakness in personal-computer demand and elevated memory costs would continue to weigh on its outlook. The decline contributed to selling across semiconductor shares. The reported stock fall is a market observation, not evidence that every chipmaker faces the same business conditions.
Cryptocurrency exchanges moved to strengthen security after Binance disclosed a $6.3 billion theft linked to a breach of its withdrawal-processing systems. Reuters reported on 31 October that Coinbase had made precautionary adjustments to its offline key-storage systems and Kraken was reviewing potential vulnerabilities. Binance halted withdrawals following the attack and said it would use company funds to cover losses. Blockchain analysts said the attack resembled previous North Korea-linked operations, but attribution remains unconfirmed.
Statistics Canada reported on 30 October that real GDP by industry was essentially unchanged in August 2026, the second consecutive month without growth. Services output fell 0.1%, while goods-producing industries grew 0.1%. A preliminary estimate indicated a 0.1% decline in September; that figure is not a final GDP release. The agency said available monthly data suggested third-quarter industry GDP expanded 0.3%.
China’s official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index fell to 49.3 in October 2026 from 50.1 in September, returning below the 50 threshold that separates expansion from contraction, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on 31 October. The production index declined to 49.8 from 51.7, while new orders fell to 49.4 from 50.5. The non-manufacturing activity index slipped to 49.7 from 50.2, including construction at 48.0 and services at 50.0. The composite PMI output index dropped to 49.7 from 50.7. These are separate measures within one official monthly release, not distinct breaking-news events.
Euro-area gross domestic product expanded 0.4% quarter on quarter in the third quarter of 2026, slowing from 0.6% in the preceding quarter but exceeding a 0.2% forecast, according to a Reuters report published on 30 October. Annual growth was 1.3%. Reuters reported substantial divergence among member economies: Germany expanded 0.2%, Spain and the Netherlands 0.6%, Italy was flat and France contracted 0.1%. Ireland’s 5.5% quarterly increase materially lifted the euro-area aggregate. The regional GDP estimate is a separate statistical release from the national announcements.
Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE) said in its flash estimate released on 30 October 2026 that consumer prices rose 4.9% year on year in October, unchanged from September. Estimated core inflation, excluding unprocessed food and energy, was 3.1%. The harmonised CPI rate was also 4.9%, while monthly harmonised prices increased 0.5%. INE said lower motor-fuel inflation and slower increases in food and clothing offset upward contributions from package holidays, gas and liquid fuels. All figures are preliminary and subject to confirmation in the final release.
